As a child I didn’t know about God, christianity, faith, Jesus or anything to do with it. I found churches to be dark, strange and creepy because all I saw was a couple of tourist attractions. I had never had a conversation or heard anyone talk about Jesus, prayer or the Bible.
The only way for God to reach me was through TV and films. There was a film called ‘All Dogs go to Heaven’ that was the first time I realised there was a Heaven to go to after you die. And the series ‘Highway to Heaven’ showed me that angels watch over us. In that series a dying lady had such faith that she wasn’t afraid to die. That stuck with me. How she prayed, her face filled with joy. It is the only scene I remember and an important foundation for my faith.
After years of selffocused and ignorant behaviour leading to destruction that I wasn’t aware of at the time, 9.11 happened.
To me there was just one God and these people were claiming to have done it for him. That didn’t make any sense so I decided to bypass all the noise people were making and ask God directly.
It took another 7 years before I consciously gave Jesus a chance. I’m so grateful that he had the love for me, the patience and persistance to go after me until I finally turned to him and fell into his arms. He will wait and show us who he is, even through the most unlikely things. Media matters.
